Peace on Earth
“Remember that thou art dust
and unto dust thou shalt return.”
busyness trying to trick depression
for some can be (seasonally adjusted) love
but is the joyous spirit of late December
so fragile it can’t take a couple of sad sufferers
in snowy manger’s footnote, in Blue Christmas Lights
singing “I’ll have a star-spangled Christmas without you?”
****
Santa Baby, It’s Cold Outside
Santa cutie, hurry down the chimney tonight
I really can’t stay
Been an awful good girl
I’ve got to go away
I’ll hold your hands they’re like ice
The children will be pacing the floor
Come & trim my Christmas Tree
Their mothers will start to worry
Think of all the fun I’ve missed
But maybe just a half a drink more
Listen to that fireplace roar
Maybe just a cigarette more
Sign your “X” on the line
At least I’m gonna say that I tried
I really do believe in you
There’s bound to be talk tomorrow
Let’s see if you believe in me
Think of my life-long sorrow
